San Quentin prison had to shut off its water supply; dozens of inmates showed signs of illness and one has a confirmed case of Legionnaire’s disease.
Sacrifice for Safety: Legionnaire’s is a disease that is cause by a bacteria found in water. It can be transmitted through steam, inhalation of contaminated soil, but not directly from person-to-person. The bacterial infection causes a severe pneumonia that can certainly lead to death.
Dying of Thirst: The inmates in the California prison’s housing units will not dehydrate, nor go without a way to clean themselves. Water from other sources (tanks and bottles) is being brought in. Portable toilets will also be made available.
The State takes this type of contamination seriously and does not want others to be placed in harm’s way. I’ll drink water to that!
